A Home For Visionaries Who Will Shape The Future Of The Wiregrass And The World
The Wiregrass Innovation Center (WIC) will be a space for hands-on training, learning, and engagement of AgTech innovation in the world of science, genomics, and research. It will create a home for entrepreneurs and innovators to propel their businesses forward and provide job opportunities for local people. The Wiregrass Innovation Center will be a place where ideas grow and entrepreneurs thrive and will be a home for visionaries who will shape the future of the Wiregrass and the world.
HudsonAlpha Wiregrass, a public-private collaboration between the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology and the City of Dothan, will anchor the 45,000 sq. ft. facility. The new center will spark innovation, enhance STEM education, and inspire economic growth by leveraging and engaging with local and regional stakeholders.
“The Wiregrass Innovation Center will be a destination for innovators, a place for experiential learning and the nerve center for economic development,” said Governor Kay Ivey. “By working together, the state of Alabama, the city of Dothan, HudsonAlpha and leaders across the region have ensured innovation continues to sweep across all of Alabama. I am confident this facility will be known as one of the top AgTech Centers in the nation.”
Who Made the Wiregrass Innovation Center Possible?
The idea for the Wiregrass Innovation Center grew out of the City of Dothan’s City Center project, an initiative with years of planning and conceptualization to revitalize the city’s core with the hope for further revitalization efforts from both public and private developers.
“If a vision doesn’t make you strain to see if it’s possible; if a vision doesn’t make you feel like we’re reaching and questioning how we can do this, then it’s not much of a vision at all,” stated Dothan Mayor, Mark Saliba, at the groundbreaking of the City Center project. “This vision needs to be transformational. It needs to be a vision that will not only benefit us now, but our children, and our grandchildren, and our great-grandchildren.”
As a part of the City Center Project, the Wiregrass Innovation Center will serve as a hub of innovation for the Wiregrass community and beyond. Thanks to the State of Alabama and the Wiregrass Foundation for the support to create this space to pursue this vision.
